Anu has also been instrumental in popularizing natural styling and hair care throughout the United States and several countries around the world. Decades ago, she created various braiding techniques and named many styles still worn proudly today, including, Single Braids, Swing Braids, Goddess Braids, Senegalese Twists, and Baby Curl Twists, just to name a few.

A natural trendsetter, Anu is the co-founder of HEADS UP! A Soulful Celebration of Our HAIRitage, an annual celebration of natural hair. She is also the co-producer of In Our Heads About Our Hair, a documentary film.

A licensed cosmetologist, Anu is among those who took a stand for the development of professional standards tied to the commercial braiding craft.

In addition to her many achievements, Anu has taught natural hairstyling techniques at the university level plus has instructed and has been mentoring hundreds of young women since 1977. Today, she is the author of two popular hair and beauty blogs: Khamit Kinks: The Muse Report and Anu Essentials.

Her latest endeavor is the launch of Anu Essentials, a natural care line that includes perfume, body and hair care products.
